HOW MANY LASER TATTOO REMOVAL SESSIONS DO I NEED?

Any kind of tattoo removal is a process, it’s worth mentally and financially committing to a course for all removals.

BROWS

We recommended anything from 1-4 treatments, this depends greatly on the amount of top-ups you’ve had how deep the technician went and the pigment range they used.

  • Most clients see improvements after 2
  • Initially, the pigment may look darker before it gets lighter
  • Pigment that sits deep in the skin comes up to the surface
  • This makes removal easier in further sessions

For some the goal is complete removal, others are looking for lightening so the area can be re-worked.

Laser Tattoo Removal

During the removal process, we are assessing and responding to the pigment, how deep it sits in the skin is the area saturated with pigment and skin stain (the russet, purple, yellows and warm colours) from years of top-ups.

All treatments require a patch test, this allows me to see how your skin reacts to the strength levels and also to see if there are any unsightly colours that will be left behind once we take the blue/black pigment. Any warmer colours can then be targeted in a later session or we can move to saline removal to lift the lighter colours. This is all discussed at your test patch.

BODY TATTOOS

8 to 12 sessions are usually necessary to obtain good results

The older the tattoo and darker in colour the easier it will lift out.

Colour body tattoos are the hardest to lift so these will require further sessions once the black areas have healed.

For larger tattoos we can only cover a area of ink no larger than a phone size roughly as too much ink being pushed into the blood stream could lead to ink poisoning, for this reason we only treat large tattoos in sections.

Post Treatment following your Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

Immediately following treatment, there will be a red discolouration of the skin. A small amount of bleeding and/or blistering may occur. This normally heals within 7 – 10 days.

  • The tattoo will appear blurred and begin its fading process over the next month.
  • Nearly all tattoos require multiple treatments to achieve maximal clearing and are usually scheduled every 8-12 weeks.
  • Mild swelling, redness and tenderness are normal for up to one week.
  • Over the following days, blisters may form followed by a scab or thin crust. Any scabs or crusting should be allowed to fall off on their own. The underlying skin will remain red for a few days to several weeks. It is crucial you do not pop any blisters as this could lead to scaring.
  • Showering/bathing is permitted after 24 hours. Gently pat the area dry, do not rub with a towel or washcloth as this may disrupt the crusting/scabbing process.
  • Do not apply make-up until all treated areas are dry and healed.
  • Protect your skin from the sun for the first 2 weeks following treatment. Use sunblock for 8 weeks after treatment.
  • If the treatment area shows signs of infection- profound redness, pus, swelling or tenderness, medical attention must be sought immediately.

Q-switch Nd: YAG laser

The Q-Switched laser emits specific wavelengths of high-energy light incredibly quickly (in nanoseconds).

These pulses are selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment, breaking it into small fragments that the body recognises as foreign objects. Over several weeks, some of the fragments (in the shallow cuticle) are discharged from the body, and the other portion (in the deep tissue) is absorbed and digested by the body and removed from the body by the immune system.

Due to its high intensity, Q-switch N YAG laser tattoo removal can effectively break apart even the most challenging colourations. A tattoo may usually be remove sing Laser Tattoo Removal treatment in 8-12 sessions.

During this procedure, patients will be asked to wear eye protection. The handheld device will be moved over the treatment area while being pressed up against the skin’s surface. Depending on the depth of the colouring, multiple treatments may be required to completely get rid of the ink, in some cases a slight shadow of the ink can be left as it is not always possible to completely remove.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

What a remarkable and professional women! So patient, friendly, caring and informative every step of the way. I've had 2 sessions of lip neutralising from Kelly I am blown away at the results. I am now almost 25 years old; ever since I was a child I suffered with hyper-pigmented lips and have lost a lot of confidence. However, I was amazed when I discovered Kelly's Website she talked me through the treatment of what to expect, risks, benefits, after-care and payments. I feel so much better knowing I can apply any lip shade and no longer worry about the dreaded dark colour coming through and destroying my make-up. Thank you!

Powder Brows & Lip Neutralising

Kelly has literally transformed my eyebrows. I went to Kelly about a year ago after my eyebrows had been completely messed up and were saturated with ink that was too dark. Kelly was open and transparent about what was needed and how long it would take, she explained everything fully and ensured I understood. Kelly is a perfectionist, and I trust her 100%. I wouldn't go anywhere else and even travel to her just for her to thread my eyebrows in-between laser treatments.

If you are looking for someone to transform your brows, Kelly is the person you need

Brow Tattoo & Microblading Removal

Kelly is amazing. I attended a consultation for botched brows and was nervous to say the least. She explained what had gone wrong and what was needed to put them right. I am so so glad I put my trust in her......it's a long process due to how botched they were but Kelly makes me feel relaxed and comfortable and even though I need more removal treatments from her already my brows are beginning to look normal again. She truly knows her stuff and I honestly will never let anyone other Kelly loose on my brows again........superstar....

I had permanent eyebrow and eyeliner done. Both are amazing! Kelly talks you through the process and puts you at ease. She is meticulous in her work and where I had thinning eyebrows I now have fuller natural looking ones.

She's happy to have questions via WhatsApp or you can ring her. I felt completely at ease and loved the results. Cannot recommend her enough!

Laser Tatto Removal FAQs

Can a tattoo be fully removed with laser?

Yes, many tattoos can be fully removed with laser treatments, depending on various factors such as the age, colour, location, and type of ink used. New advanced laser technologies, like our Q-switched or picosecond lasers, are designed to target specific ink colors effectively, breaking them down so the body’s immune system can naturally clear them.

While black and dark-colored inks are often the easiest to remove, newer lasers are capable of addressing a wider range of colors, including blues, greens, and reds. However, the success of complete removal also depends on the individual’s skin type and overall health. In some cases, you will still be able to see left-over pigmentation from the tattoo.

Do laser tattoo removal treatments really work?

Yes, laser tattoo removal can be very effective when performed by trained professionals using the right equipment. It is the most advanced and reliable method for breaking down tattoo ink particles, allowing the body to process and eliminate them naturally over a series of treatments. Success rates are varied by factors like tattoo size, location, ink composition, and skin type, but most clients see dramatic fading within the first three sessions and complete removal can take several more session. Tattoos continue to fade with each session and during the healing period and we recommend leaving a longer rest period after the first three, with each session targeting deeper ink layers, leading to progressive improvement.

Is tattoo laser removal painful?

Tattoo laser removal can cause some discomfort, but the sensation is often described as similar to the snapping of a rubber band against the skin or the heat of a sunburn. Pain levels vary from person to person, depending on their pain tolerance and the location of the tattoo. Also for women it’s recommended not to have treatment during your menstrual cycle to avoid further sensitivity.

To reduce discomfort, we offer ice packs during treatment. Most clients find the process manageable, along with the sessions being brief helps make it easier to manage.

Who cannot have laser tattoo removal?

While laser tattoo removal is safe for most people, certain individuals may not be suitable candidates. For instance:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals: It’s best to delay treatments during these periods for safety reasons.
  • Certain skin conditions or infections: People with active skin infections or specific dermatological conditions in the treatment area may need to wait.
  • Severe sunburn or tanned skin: Recent tanning increases the risk of side effects like hyperpigmentation.
  • Certain medical conditions: individuals with uncontrolled diabetes, certain autoimmune disorders, or those on medications that increase light sensitivity should consult their doctor first.

A thorough consultation to assess suitability and minimise risks to taken prior to treatment.

Will tattoo removal leave a scar?

When performed by a skilled professional using modern laser technology, tattoo removal has a low risk of scarring. The lasers are designed to target tattoo ink while keeping risks of damage to the surrounding skin to a minimum.

That said, existing scars from the tattoo process or improper aftercare during removal can impact the final result. The initial tattoo artist may have already implanted the ink too deep and once the ink is removed there is a risk of the skin being raised in this area but you can generally see this present prior to removal.

Following aftercare instructions is imperative —such as avoiding sun exposure, not picking at treated areas, and keeping the skin moisturised— this all plays a key role in ensuring smooth healing. Scarring is rare, but an open discussion with your provider can help give you the best outcome.
